Having trouble downloading a game to my sd card - Nintendo Switch Forum - Page 1

Hey there! I recently bought my Nintendo Switch OLED and got a 512 GB SD Card aswell. Downloading and moving games worked totally fine until I tried to download The Witcher 3 - Complete Edition (31 GB). I would like to save it on my SD card since it would take so much space in the systems memory. I also formatted the sd card beforehand. So I tried to download it to SD but it always stopped. Sometimes after a few seconds other times a bit more into the download. I tried it in different (W)LANs - never worked (Error-Code 2005-0003). So I removed the SD card and tried to download to the system. This works perfectly fine. But when I try to move the data to the sd card it stops at about 80-90% always leaving 3.3 GB on the systems memory. Trying to move the rest of the data a second time results in the same error as before. I also tried to search for corrupt data in the installation but the system just told me to reinstall it and deleted the whole game :/

So now I don't know what to do. I would really like to install the game on the sd card, not on the systems memory. I guess I will try a different SD card soon.

If you have any idea, I would appreciate your help!

@Freddy_O To me, this sounds like you might have a counterfeit micro sd card. These bogus cards will say they have the advertised capacity when plugged into a pc, but in reality it could be 8gb, 16gb, 32gb card. If you think that card might be bad or bogus, and have another card, you can try another card.

If you're sure that's a legitimate card, make sure you follow Nintendo Supports directions for formatting the card. Or look at troubleshooting for "can't download to micro sd card".

*You an plug error codes into Nintendo Support's search bar to see what they mean.

If anyone reading is new to buying micro sd cards: When buying cards from Amazon, follow these rules to avoiding bogus cards: 1) Only buy from pages that have thousands, 10,000+, or 100,000+ positive reivews. The more the better. 2) Only buy from a page that says "Sold and Shipped by Amazon". 3) Only buy a brand name you recognize & trust.

(Disregard if you know these rules already. I typed the rules out in case anyone new to buying cards on amazon see's this page. Every year, someone in here buys a card from amazon for a price thats too good to be true.)

@WoomyNNYes Hey Thank you very much for you reply! I will look into it and keep you updated! The SD card should be legit, but i will try my luck with another one. Also just formatted it (on the switch as before) again and trying to download. At least for now (~45%) it works. Thanks again for your time!

What kinda card is it? If not SanDisk microSD then you got had. Always buy from Amazon if you get that option or verify the card your buying is what it really is. You computer/laptop should have a USB formatting stick to verify it's what it says it is. And if fake get your money back ASAP. At this point I wouldn't trust that card get another i.e. SanDisk 512g card and let the Switch format it and try again.
