Monster Hunter Rise - Nintendo Switch Forum - Page 205

I honestly thought the demo sucked. The two new monsters you want to experience are too hard to really be fun, when you are running unknown builds and combinations of skills.

I appreciate it is a demo so they can't give you everything, but the way they managed loadouts, even with the Switch Swap thing, just didn't make sense or simply weren't how I liked to play the weapon, which made trying to learn the new skills and monsters, awkward and unfun (especially as there is no training area). It is also weird they omitted skills they already showed off, too.

I tried to Dual Blades first. The new drill attack looks awesome and does excellent damage when landed properly but I struggled to find a real use case for this. Unlike the existing launch Switch Skill which auto counters even roars, the drill doesn't seem to have any I-Frames, let alone counters. It just seems like a cart recipe to keep firing yourself into the air, so the monster can just smash you right out of it. The hitbox seems to be really small too for hitting the actual drill or just scuffing them on the way by.

After a while it seemed like the idea was to charge up, use the beyblade move and then use the drill move as like a finisher after the beyblade shot you off the end of the monster. This is cool and I felt badass doing it, but again, in practical terms when you are fighting stronger monsters, this just seems to mean you're gonna be carting a lot.

I gave up on that and tried the Great Sword next. I was most interested in that new combo move as it seems to suggest it replaces the usual charge moves for a completely different playstyle but that wasn't included in the demo for some reason? Even though we already saw it? There isn't even a rage slash or a guard tackle?

What is included is a move called "Hysteria", which I guess is the new Stance move? But I couldn't work this move out no matter how long I played around. From the best I can tell, it is some kind of block (not an auto counter like I hoped) you can activate at any time (so that includes charging up) as long as you have the available wirebugs. But why you would do this... is anyone's guess? You have a block and a super armour tackle you can do midcombo already and it doesn't cost any wirebugs?

Not to mention this new move is over within a second, so unless you activate it literally second perfect, it does nothing but waste two wirebugs. I think the idea is that if you pull it off, you can then charge your remaining charge levels faster? But like I say, the window was so impossibly tight, I could never land this to really see any benefit. Just seems totally useless to me.

The final thing I tried was the bow. I am not sure which of the stakes was included in the demo, one I understand is severing and one I thought worked like the Dual Blade stake, but this one seemed to keep exploding, doing huge damage, so it just seems like a way better version of the DB move... which just kinda sucks? Why take a move from another weapon, and make a far superior version as well?

I will say, I am absolutely looking forward to playing these new monsters with proper builds and loadouts. Malzeno's teleporting and form changing and just it's general moves, ***** awesome.

I'm tempted to play the demo but I'll think I wait for the DLC to come out. It's just around the corner and I have other games to play first. I can't wait to fight Gore Magala again!

Anyways yeah, Malzeno's is the only one with the 15 minutes. Think it's common for all of the flagships hunts to be this way on demos.

Yes I know. And I have always hated it.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

@TeeJay Same, at least make it 30 minutes like with some elder dragon quests back then, lol

@JaxonH Also in regards to 3U, it's been a long time but I'm fairly certain that by the time I actually got a Wii U, we were well into playing 4U and I couldn't imagine going back at that point.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Is the original MH demo just updated or do you have to download a completely separate demo? I was looking yesterday real quick and couldn’t find it.

Good... good Now play Dragon Quest

@iLikeUrAttitude Thank you, that’s new.

....I just watched Arekkz's video on riding Malzeno...and...wait...can you do different finishers? I know that the Light and Strong attacks can be altered by pulling back on the L stick...does that work on the finisher too? o_0

Asking because I swear I saw Malzeno do a different finisher at the end of the video, lol

I just did the Astalos fight finally. I gotta say the jungle map looks real nice! Though it does feel substantially smaller this time around thanks to how the hunter can zip around all over the place now. I suppose that's why they added that extra little arena in the temple.

I love how some of the more annoying areas to get to can now just be wirebugged and wall ran to.

@TeeJay There's also a lot of vertically in the jungle that makes it deceptively larger than it appears. I actually got lost trying to explore it lol. At first I was like oh, this doesn't look that big (based on mini map), then ended up exploring in circles trying to find my way to the monster. I love Jungle so much. They did an amazing job recreating it.

PLAYING NS: Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes, Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, Neon White, TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Sonic Origins, AI Somium Files Nirvana Initiative STEAM: Monster Hunter World XSX: PS5:

I love recreated maps in this game in general....Sandy Plains is still #1 for me, though. lol

EDIT: I just realized....the weather can change to rain on the Jungle map...please bring the rain back for the Flooded Forest, too! >.<

@Pizzamorg GS is really good. Check out Team Darkside's recent video to see how to use that new counter. It's really fun once you get the hang of it. Also, there is Rage Slash and Guard Tackle. You can change your switch skills in the tent and I think those are also included in the default alternate scroll.

That is weird, I tried both but had True Charge and regular tackle on both scrolls. Is that a bug?

Edit: I read that again. You can change your Switch skills in the tent? I swear I never saw that option.

Edit 2: You are right, it is inside the item box option for some reason. I never even thought of looking in there for my Switch skills. Surge slash is deffo not there in the choices though

@Pizzamorg yeah, not all the switch skills are in the demo

Do you have a link to that video you suggested which shows how you are meant to use that new Great Sword block thing? Can't seem to find it anywhere.

He doesn't explain it, but you can see how he does it:

I still can't really get any sense from that what the move is doing, is his charge doing more damage post the block?

Yeah, it's like a guard point too. you take no chip damage and it looks like you do more damage dependent on how much damage you countered. You also go right into the final charge. And since you're already hitting X when you're charging an attack, you just hit L2 to do that skill.

That sounds really cool now I know what it does, haha! Sadly, I think that is a move that has just too high of ceiling for me. I think I'd die trying to use that, more than I would benefit.
