Crisis Core really will be here before the end of the year.
As the final quarter of 2022 grows near, the video game launch slate is starting to fill up. Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core Reunion was always going to be a part of that slate, barring an unlikely delay, and now the prequel remaster's launch date has been confirmed.
Previously given a vague arrival of winter 2022, it was confirmed via the Final Fantasy 7 Twitter account (thanks, Eurogamer) that Crisis Core Reunion will launch across all major platforms on December 13, 2022. That's right, in case you didn't already know, Crisis Core will not be bound by PlayStation exclusivity. It will also be available on PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

Crisis Core Reunion was announced earlier this year and unlikely Final Fantasy 7, it won't be a full remake. It will be something in between a remaster and a remake, hence the Reunion label. The graphics have been greatly improved upon which makes sense since the original launched on PSP, and it will also have a brand new soundtrack and a tweaked menu-based battle system.
This week actually marks the 15th anniversary of the original Crisis Core, hence Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix waiting until now to confirm its release date. If you're unfamiliar with Crisis Core, it takes place prior to the events of the main Final Fantasy 7 game and gives players a proper introduction to Zack. If you were wondering who the guy with black hair is at the end of Remake, probably worth giving Crisis Core a go.
It will be interesting to see just how well Crisis Core performs. The original sold more than three million copies making it one of the best-selling PSP games ever. The hope will be that Remake players hungry for more content will pick it up to fill the gap before Rebirth which was also revealed earlier this year.
